Strategy
This project was developed with De Designpolitie, a creative studio in Amsterdam, for Pictoright Magazine, a publication that focuses on protecting artists’ rights and supporting creative work. The goal was to design visuals and layouts that could clearly communicate ideas around copyright and artistic ownership while maintaining the magazine’s editorial tone. The strategy was to translate complex legal and creative topics into visual storytelling that feels engaging, clear, and accessible to readers.
Design
The design approach focused on creating strong yet simple layouts that balanced typography, graphics, and visual composition. Clean type, bold graphic elements, and thoughtful spacing were used to guide readers through the content while maintaining clarity. Illustrations and visual metaphors were explored to represent ideas such as ownership, creativity, and collaboration. Each spread was designed to maintain a consistent rhythm throughout the magazine, while a minimal colour palette helped keep the focus on the visuals and the editorial message. The process involved brainstorming concepts, creating illustrations, experimenting with textures and forms, and refining layouts through multiple feedback rounds with the design team.
Results
The final design presented complex topics in a visually engaging and approachable way while preserving the magazine’s professional and creative identity. The layouts created a strong balance between clarity and expression, helping readers understand the message while enjoying the visual experience. This project strengthened my understanding of editorial design, collaboration within a professional design studio, and how visual storytelling can support and communicate meaningful ideas in print.
